Service raises £1,115 for cystic fibrosis

-

A SERVICE supporting people with mental health needs and learning difficulties in Hinckley has raised more than £1,100 for cystic fibrosis.

Our Pineapple Support Services held a series of fundraisers over the past two months to raise the cash in tribute to team leader, Carol Wallinger, whose teenage son lives with the condition.

The events included cycling the 97 miles from their base in The Lawns, Hinckley, to Big Ben in London on static exercise bikes.

The challenge saw 50 people, including students and staff from Dorothy Goodman School, saddle up for a combined three hours of peddling, which raised £150 for the charity.

Other events included an auction and raffle which scores of town businesses supported by donating various items and gifts.

The charity mission culminated in a Christmas cystic fibrosis fundraiser which more than 100 people attended.

Overall £1,115 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Chris Baum, senior support worker at Pineapple Support Services, thanked everyone who donated money and items to the raffle.

He added: “We must mention the one lady who serves to remind us daily of how Cystic Fibrosis impacts lives.

“Carol this event was inspired by your family’s own story – we were all thinking of Christopher when we planned and built this day.

“Thank you for your daily courage in the face of, what, at times, must seem like the impossible.

“You have honoured us by showing us how life is possible in the face of Cystic Fibrosis – and this event is to honour you.

“We must also give a massive thank you to all who contributed.”
