Show money is donated to two charities
MONEY raised from this year’s Market Bosworth Show and a pre-show event has been handed over to two charities.
National charity Guide Dogs (c) has been given £1,000 from July’s show proceeds while Nuneatonbased Mary Ann Evans Hospice has received £1,300 raised at a beagle racing evening held in the run-up to the main event.
Cheques for the amounts were presented to representatives of the two causes by members of Market Bosworth Agricultural, Horticultural and Equestrian Society, which organises the annual country show, at the society’s annual general meeting.
Java the Guide Dog joined treasurer of the Leicestershire and Rutland Guide Dogs fundraising group Mike Goodall and charity representative Elaine Barry to receive the show cheque, while Jacqueline Leake accepted a cheque from the beagle racing event on behalf of Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
The hospice will go on to benefit from next year’s show, which is to be held on Sunday July 2 2017.
Show spokesman Jacquie Aucott explained: “We make more money from the Friday night because the show bears all the costs of the marquee, seats etc so the only costs (of the Friday event) are those specific to the evening.
“The committee have decided to make it so a charity benefits from both over the two years.
“The show costs a fortune to put on and we don’t get the gate like we used to.
“We regularly debate whether to continue but the show is about more than just raising money.”,
She said that charities were chosen by the committee with a view to causes that are likely to be well-supported by ticket-buyers.
