Girl power is force to be reckoned with at Camra
WOMEN now hold around half of the top jobs within Hinckley and Bosworth Camra.
The borough branch of the national Campaign for Real Ale, which has been running for 11 years, has appointed women to six key roles following elections at its annual general meeting held in Burbage Constitutional Club.
Four of the women are taking on the core positions for the first time.
Becky - known as Bex - Oakes becomes festival organiser for the branch’s perennially popular Rail Ale Festival, held on the preserved Battlefield Line at Market Bosworth railway station.
The festival attracts hundreds of visitors across a weekend in summer and boasts a full beer festival plus entertainment, steam attractions and food stalls.
Jodie Smith has taken on the challenge of recruiting new young members, aged between 18 and 30.
As young member contact, her task is to encourage them to get involved in both social and campaign work, with a view to them taking over the reins as the future of the branch.
Michelle Tyrtania provides secretarial support for branch meetings and produces campaign documents, while Dianne Bates, who helps to produce the branch’s widely distributed Half Pint magazine, takes on the job of auditor.
Bethan Moore has been re-elected branch treasurer and Jackie Wallis re-elected as pub campaigns officer.
Branch secretary Richard Lewin said: “All branch officers, female or male, are volunteers, giving up many hours of their time on behalf of our 600 members, around 80 pubs and four breweries all within the area, which is roughly the same area as covered by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
“The rising influence of women within the branch sets the right tone for Hinckley Camra’s continuing success in the future.”
