Right-wing media stir things up
TO Mr Bates ( The Hinckley Times, December 14), you misunderstand my letter and my role as a teacher.
Yes, I have done my homework very thoroughly and did so for my entire career. If you could see what Ofsted put teachers through, you would know what I mean.
Yes, I have read everything Shyfox said in The Hinckley Times. Yes, I disagree with the way he/she writes and many of the things they write about.
My question to you was specific. I believe that Shyfox is correct in stating that the right-wing media will stir things up to try to change people’s ways of thinking. Shyfox is very clear about this in their valedictory speech.
If I were to respond to everything Shyfox says, I would need three or four pages of The Hinckley Times to explain and I’m sure that the Editor would not allow this!
Why my question was specific was that it allowed me to talk about one thing which is my substantive point.
Imagine my headteacher’s comment if he knew my A-Level history group was set an essay question: “Tell me all you know about the history of the world”. I hope you get my drift.
To Shyfox: I’m sad you are going. I will miss your ramblings and your anti-democratic monologues.
I also think that someone who makes such derogatory comments about 17.4 million people should tell us who he/she is. I also feel sorry for you if you think that ordinary elderly folk writing in The Hinckley Times would give you a bloody nose!
Don’t dish the dirt if you cannot take it back. Happy retirement. Derek Robinson
