Spring clean planned torestoreTeddy glass
Window is a tribute to much-loved rector
CHURCH goers in Cadeby look set to see the light more clearly as plans are made to clean a very special stained glass window.
The east window in All Saints’ Church in the village is a colourful tribute to the Reverend Teddy Boston, who was Rector of Cadeby from 1959 until his death in 1986.
It features an image of him on the footplate of his narrow gauge locomotive Pixie, which ran around the grounds of the neighbouring Old Rectory garden.
There is also a section with sandwiches and teacups in reference to the Parish Pantry, a church fundraising venture run by Mr Boston’s wife Audrey.
The window was dedicated by the then Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Ronald Williams, in 1979.
Members of Cadeby church council, who spearheaded a £161,000 English Heritage/Heritage Lottery Fund church renovation scheme in 2014, are now keen to see the unique window in its original glory.
Stained glass conservation experts have been called in to assess the cost of specialist cleaning.
The work will be funded in part by money raised at a church flower festival and exhibition held last year to mark the 30th anniversary of Rev Boston’s death.
A donation of £280 has also been pledged by the Great Central Rail- way whose business development manager Michael Stokes, a former Cadeby resident, last year organised a memorial steam rally featuring vehicles that once belonged to the Rev Boston and which raised money for the cause.
Cadeby church is opened daily by volunteers, where information about Rev Boston and other aspects of the church history, including a plan of churchyard memorials, is available.
