Musical lunchtimes at church as season starts

-

A SPRING season of lunchtime recitals has been planned at a town centre church.

St Mary’s Arts (Smarts) will be hosting informal performances by professional and experienced musicans in the Hinckley church on Wednesdays February 1, March 1, April 5 and May 3.

Each will be held from 1pm until about 1.45pm, with admission £4 for adults and £1 for children and students on the door.

A season ticket for £14 will also be available to buy at the February performance.

Smarts chairman Philip Worley said: “People are invited to come and enjoy these informal concerts in the beautiful setting of Hinckley’s medieval parish church, with light classical music performed to the highest standards.”

Hot drinks and snacks are on sale in the church coffee bar, where people are also welcome to take along a packed lunch to eat before or after the recital.

The first performance will feature the King and Rackham Duo of violinist Andrew Rackham and pianist David King.

March will see accordionist Rosemary Wright take the stage and in April soprano Christine Edwards will perform with pianist Chris Howard.

The season will end with a programme from St Mary’s organist and choir master Peter Harris in May.

To find out more about Smarts and the spring programme call either Mr Worley on Hinckley 846215 or group secretary Hilda Butler on Hinckley 613759.

Leaflets detailing all the performances are available from St Mary’s Church which is open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm and on Sunday for services.
