WADE ON WATER

- with Richard Wade

SATURDAY’S Higham Lane Fishery Open was won by Dave Henry.

In another hard contest Dave fished bomb and corn on peg 25 to finish with 26lb 11ozs, the bulk of his catch being made in the first two hours of the match.

Dave Hurlston finished second, fishing in similar style to the winner at peg seven to weigh 15lb 12ozs.

John Varley finished a close third with a 15lb 12oz catch from peg 10.

Dave Cleaver won Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open from the unfancied peg two.

The in-form Suzi Smith won a wind-swept Lychgate Fisheries midweek Open with a 9lb 14oz catch from peg 55.

Mark Jaques weighed 8lb 2ozs for second place with Barry Jaques finishing third with 6lb 4ozs.

After a bumper catch of big perch in a practise session the day before, Kev Milne fancied his chances when he drew the same peg the next day in Higham Lane’s Thursday contest.

But in four hours he could only catch one small “stripey”!

A change to casting bomb and corn to the island resulted in the capture of a 9lb carp, which was enough to give him a win with 9lb 7ozs.

Dave Massey finished second with 5lb 11ozs with Terry Sanderson finishing third with 3lb 6ozs.

Darryl Moore over came the windy conditions to make the top catch in Maynes Lakes mid week Open.

Darryl pole fished bread punch to land 6lb 8ozs.

Shackerstone’s open match fished along the Horse & Jockey length was a miserable day for most with just two anglers catching fish.
