Goons leap to top of the table
CAT A saw off their B team rivals by eight sets to two in the Hinckley Table Tennis Division One, with Rhys Emery from Cat A winning all three of his matches.
It was followed up with a close win against Barlestone A by six sets to four, despite Barlestone’s Adam Pettitt winning his three matches.
Goons reignited their season with a fine win over Hugglescote Rams by seven sets to two.
Jason Woodfield took all of his games while team-mates Ian Whetherley and John Szostak each won two.
Barry Taylor took two wins for Rams.
Goons followed the victory with a 10 sets to nil defeat of G Ward B to leap up the table.
A further 10 sets to nil victory over Nalgo put them at the top of the table.
Nalgo beat Queen’s C by nine sets to one, with Kevin Edwards and Dave Daniels taking maximums for the victors.
A second victory, against Cat B by seven sets to three, saw Daniels again in unbeatable form.
G Ward A saw off Barlestone B by seven sets to three with Mark Perkins winning his three while Barlestone’s Jon Jacom won two for the home side.
G Ward A then went down to a surprise defeat at the hands of Cat A in which Rhys Emery took all three of his matches and team-mate Pete Jamieson won two.
The usually reliable Mark Perkins for GWA won only one of his games.
Barlestone B fought hard against Hugglescote Rams but succumbed by six sets to four.
Phil Jones won his three for the Rams while Jacom and Norman Weaver took two each for Barlestone.
