Body found in missing man search
POLICE searching for a missing man from Enderby have found a body.
Officers recovered a body in water at Jubilee Park, Enderby, last Thursday afternoon.
Formal identification has not yet taken place but police believe the body is that of David Noakes from Enderby.
The 78-year-old was last seen by his family at 10.25am on Tuesday January 17 on Trinity Road in the village.
Police launched an appeal to trace the “vulnerable and confused” man whose disappearance was said to be very out of character
Specially-trained officers dragged sections of the lake at Jubilee Park on Thursday because it was a spot Mr Noakes often visited.
They also searched the River Soar while local people were urged to check their sheds and outbuildings.
A statement from the family said: “David’s wife Valerie and all the family wish to say a big thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly to bring David back to us and for all the kind thoughts and messages, sadly it wasn’t a better outcome.”
A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “Officers searching for missing man David Noakes have recovered a body.
“The body was found in water in Jubilee Park, Enderby, earlier this afternoon.
“Formal identification has not yet taken but the body is believed to be that of Mr Noakes.
“We would like to thank all those who have shared our appeal.”
Scores of people took to social media to share their condolences when Leicestershire Police announced the discovery on Thursday evening.
Lorna Powell wrote: “My thoughts and prayers to all involved!”
Corrine Rogerson added: “So sad, RIP Mr Noakes.”
Elaine Pantling posted: “So very sad, RIP Mr Noakes. My heart goes out to the family.”
