MP will be guest speaker at Chamber event

-

A FORMER education and finance minister will be the guest of honour at a high profile meeting of Hinckley and District Chamber of Trade.

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan will be the speaker when the group convenes at Cafe Espanol in the Atkins Building in Hinckley on February 24 from 5.30pm.

The ex Cabinet member hit the headlines recently in the ‘trousergate’ row when she criticised Prime Minister Teresa May for being photographed for an interview wear- ing £1,000 leather trousers.

The outburst got her banned from Downing Street.

Fashion may not be on the agenda but Britain post-Brexit is likely to come up during her presentation Likely Themes for the 2017 Budget.

Chamber of trade president, Rosemary Wright said: “We are honoured to welcome Nicky Morgan as our guest speaker. On becoming an MP in 2010 Nicky had a meteoric rise in David Cameron’s Government to become Secretary of State for Educa- tion, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Minister for Women and Equalities and Assistant Whip in the Coalition Government.

“At the EU referendum she was very vocal in her support for the EU and backed Remain in the EU and the single market. I’m sure many members of the local business community and local councillors also will be very interested in what she has to say.”

The Oxford graduate had a successful career as a corporate lawyer before entering politics.
