Club is named one of the best in the UK
REAL ALE lovers named a Burbage club one of the best in the country.
Burbage and District Constitutional Club reached the final 16 of a national competition run by Camra, the Campaign for Real Ale.
It only narrowly missed out on progressing to the UK quarter finals.
Hinckley and Bosworth Camra branch secretary Richard Lewin described it as “a truly remarkable achievement”.
Judges from the national Campaign group described the venue as a “striking building of 18th century vintage, Grade II listed and once occupied by a 19th century Prime Minister (George Canning)”.
The said: “Welcomed by the Steward, we signed in and straightaway observed the plush and comfortable rooms of this well-appointed institution.
“Inside were appreciations of Camra and Camra awards.
“Five hand-pumps on the attractive bar served beers that were well kept, enjoyable and very reasonably priced.
“This plush club is a worthy village club that offers good beers, comfort and facilities for its members and visitors.”
The national recognition followed the club being named the best in the region by east midlands Camra members in 2016.
It claimed the regional crown - covering six counties - after being named Hinckley and Bosworth Club of the Year last year by members of Camra’s own borough branch.
