Chance for kids to shape youth club

-

YOUNGSTERS in Stoney Stanton are being invited to help build the foundations for a successful youth club in the village for the very first time.

An inaugural meeting of the club will be held on Thursday March 2 from 6pm to 8pm at the village hall on New Road.

Set-up by the parish council the first ever gettogether will be aimed at putting the infrastructure of the club together.

Children aged eight and above and their parents are invited to go along on the night and get involved in discussing what they would like to get out of the club.

Discussions will include how the new venture will be run and what equipment might be needed to make it a success.

Youngsters will also get the chance to design posters to promote the club and be asked to collect any paperwork for parental consent.

Once up and running the club will be taken over by Young Leicestershire, the county’s biggest provider of open-access clubs for young people with more than 15,000 members now attending its network of affiliated groups.

The organisation is involved in supporting vibrant clubs across the area including Sapcote, Ratby and in Hinckley the Green Towers Club 4 Young People.

Run as a charitable foundation, the group has been running for more than 60 years proving activities by supporting voluntary sector services.

On a day-to-day basis Young Leicestershire help groups to raise funds, organise management committees and set up suitable policies and procedures for the running of clubs.

Help will also be available for the club to gain a First Step quality mark.

The group is recruiting three youth workers to help with the running of the new youth club.

Applications must be made by Februarry 6.

Parents are urged to go along with their children and also to help share the message to ensure a good turnout.
