First choir concert boost for charities

-

THREE charities are to benefit from a total of more than £1,500 following a community choir’s first full-length concert.

Harmonic Voices, based in Burbage, held its first ever solo event at St Catherine’s Church in the village in December raising money for three good causes.

Proceeds from a raffle held on the day and money raised through ticket sales will be shared between Hinckley-based Snips (Special Needs Integration Project) for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, the Samaritans, and Guide Dogs.

Each will each receive around £500 to help fund projects.

The event, led by musical director Steve Johnson, was covered by ITV and featured on its regional news bulletin earlier this month.

Choir leader Steve said: “To me the choir is a big family.

“All generations are represented and we come together to share our love of singing.

“The wide range of voices gives the choir a unique sound.”

Harmonic Voices was only formed in 2014, with songs taught by the Natural Voice method.

Singers are taught mostly by ear and all levels of skill are accommodated for.

It is open to men and women of all ages and abilities, with no auditions and no special musical knowledge necessary.

In addition to performances planned for 2017, the choir is to compete in the Community Choir Challenge at St James the Greater Church in Leicester on May 20 and is planning a choral exchange with a choir from South Wales.
