Hinckley’s real ale scene embraces brews

-

KEEPING it in the county is a motto enthusiastically taken up by a brace of bars in Hinckley.

Real ale champions in the town centre are among some of the first outlets to offer tipples from Leicestershire’s newest craft brewery.

Broood Hinckley at The Prince of Wales on Coventry Road, The Elbow Room Ale and Cider House at The Crescent and the Pestle and Mortar on Upper Castle Street are all stocking ales from Framework Brewery.

The Leicester city centre based company poured its first pint – a hoppy American pale ale – on December 6.

Since then, amid their ambition to create an evolving collection of beverages, there’s been Simcoe Stout, Centennial Rye and American Amber, among others.

Feedback from pub staff and customers in Hinckley has been “very encouraging” says Framework’s marketing director Jonathan Briggs.

He added: “Hinckley’s got a really decent real ale scene and we’re very happy, as a Leicester beer maker, to be a part of that.”

The brewery, in Friday Street near Abbey Park, specialises in brews made from New World hops, otherwise known as hop-forward beers, and all are vegan and vegetarian friendly.

This means they join a growing number of breweries to ban the use of finings made from fish guts to remove cloudiness.

Framework hope to expand production to 7,000 litres a week, brewing every day, with possible further growth, all delivered by the original team.

Director Mat Mabe said: “We’re not aiming to sell the business because we want this to be an important Leicester beer business. And we always want to make sure our beers are a craft product that are handmade and not mass-produced.”
