THE HEAD of Hinckley-based charity working in India has revealed that his cause clockedup less than £200 in costs in 2016, while more than £30,000 of aid was given to the communities it supports.

Phil Nevett, of the Jesuit Nevett Fund for Children reported in his most recent newsletter that the charity’s cost were just £197 last year.

Among the charity’s supporters in 2016 were Hinckley’s Westfield Infant School and St Peter’s RC Primary School.

As a result of the £30,000 sent abroad, more than 1,200 pupils in some of the poorest parts of India received help and five major projects were funded.

In addition to supporting physical projects like school improvements, the Jesuit Nevett Fund for Children offers scholarships for school and college students from poor families living in rural Tamil Nadu.

Mr Nevett said: “Most of the recipients of this help are the first in their family to attend college or school.

“For many pursuit of their educational dreams would not be possible without this generous support.”

He added: “None of the above would be possible without our friends and supporters.

“Please continue to give generously to help us with this most worthwhile cause.”
