Invite to village mosque to boost cohesion
RESIDENTS are invited to visit a mosque in Markfield as part of an annual event which aims to tackle prejudice and increase community cohesion.
The Islamic Foundation at the Markfield Conference Centre, on Ratby Lane, is hosting its annual Visit My Mosque event on February 5 between 11am and 5pm.
Visitors will be given an insight into the day to day activities which take place inside a mosque and will have an opportunity to observe a congregational prayer taking place.
An exhibition will also be in the Islamic Foundation library which will explore Islam in general and give guests the opportunity to look at the Quran and old scriptures.
Sameeha Rafeek, one of the organisers, said: “This event is aimed at giving the local community an opportunity to see what goes on inside a mosque and understand the role that a mosque plays in a Muslim community.
“It is also aimed at giving visitors the opportunity to interact and engage with people from different cultures and get a deeper cultural and religious understanding.
“The event is aimed at creating community cohesion in the face of misinterpretation and misunderstandings between faiths, races and cultures.”
Refreshments and children’s activities such as painting and colouring will be available.
