Terrifying gun raid for whisky

A GUN-WIELDING robber threatened a lorry driver parked on the A5 near Hinckley before stealing two pallets of whisky in an early morning raid.

The lorry was parked in a lay-by opposite Rock Caravans in Witherley when a man holding a firearm approached at 3.30am last Thursday.

The terrified driver locked himself in his cab and the robber forced his way into the back of the lorry with the help of two other men.

The three men then loaded two pallets of whisky into a white Mercedes.

They fled the scene in the direction of Hinckley and Nuneaton.

Warwickshi­re Police are appealing for informatio­n on the incident and urged any witnesses or anyone with informatio­n to come forward.

The man with the gun was described as white, skinny, aged between 26 and 28, around 6ft and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Sergeant Amjad Iqbal, investigat­ing officer, said: “It is important that we identify the people responsibl­e for carrying out this robbery.

“Were you in the area at the time

“Did you see anyone acting suspicious­ly?

“Did you see a white Mercedes van?

“If so we would like to hear from you.”

Confirming the details of the incident a police spokesman added: “We’re appealing for informatio­n following an armed robbery in the lay-by opposite Rock Caravans on the A5 Watling Street, Witherley.

“The incident occurred at around 3.30am on Thursday.

“A lorry driver reports that he was sitting in the cab of his vehicle when he was approached by a man holding a firearm.

“The victim then locked himself in the cab and the man and two other men gained access to the back of the lorry and made off with two pallets of whisky.

“The men fled the scene in a white Mercedes van in the direction of Nuneaton and Hinckley.”
