A SHOPFITTING firm in Hinckley has raised £50,000 for charity at an event celebrating its 50th birthday.

The money was raised by The Alan Nuttall Partnership, based in Dowells Road, through table sales, an auction and raffle at an event which saw comedian Sir Lenny Henry take to the stage.

The funds will be split between Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society - two charities close to chairman Alan Nuttall’s heart.

Mr Nuttall said: “The evening was a fantastic chance to celebrate our first 50 years with many of the local and national suppliers Nuttall’s has worked with over the years, but also the opportunity to raise invaluable funds for charities that are close to my heart.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported what was an amazing evening. Raising £50,000 is an outstanding and fitting result, going a long way to help our chosen charities continue their great work with people who need it most.”

Some 300 guests enjoyed a three-course meal and Sir Lenny Henry, an engineer apprentice himself before becoming famous as a stand-up, entertained crowds at the event in Solihull.

Susan White, from Cancer Research UK, said: “We receive no govern- ment funding for our ground-breaking research and funds raised through supporters like The Alan Nuttall Partnership is crucial to the work of doctors, nurses and scientists, who work day and night to fight cancer on all fronts.”

Emma Dowler, from the Alzheimer’s Society, added: “We are ever so grateful to Nuttall’s and all their staff for the tremen- dous fundraising £25,000 on our behalf.”

Nuttall’s, an employeeowned partnership, was set up in Alan Nuttall’s garage with just £137 in 1966.

It it now one of the UK’s largest, privately-owned interior fit-out, design and display specialists, with an annual turnover of over £60m and 600 members of staff. of
