Youngsters qualify for team finals event

-

BOSWORTH Academy Under19s boys have qualified for the Butterfly Schools Team Championships Zone Finals after finishing second in the regional.

Having lost to Grantham’s King’s College they stormed back to win their other three matches against teams from Cambridge, Ipswich and Bedford.

The team included two Hinckley League players, Adam Pettitt and Cameron Lightfoot, alongside team mates Dan Andrews and Marcus Harvey.

The finals are in Blackburn in March. If they are successful in the zone finals they will earn a place at the national finals on home turf at Hinckley Leisure Centre in April.

In the local league there were some really close results. In Division Two RE Studios fought out a tight draw with Hit ’n’ Hope with the latter leading by five sets to two after seven sets. It looked like the match was over but Gary Rhodes had other ideas duly completing his maximum and then combining with Steve Crutchley to secure the doubles and earn a fine draw for RE Studios.

Cat F defeated Cat E by six sets to four. The F team led by four sets to one but with Alex Downes from Cat F in splendid form they fought back, just going down by 6 sets to 4.

Leaders Queens B overcame a spirited George Ward D to win by seven sets to three. Roger Hill from George Ward continues to be undefeated in the league, collecting straight wins over Martin Goodman and Tony Nixon and dropping one game to Chris Sherwin.

In their next match Cat F surprised a depleted Queens B managing to earn a draw. Eddie Kwok of Cat F defeating both Chris Sherwin and Martin Goodman, both Queens B.

George Ward E had a good away win over Barlestone C by seven sets to three. Alex West- erby outstanding for Barlestone with three good wins.

Cat G lost by four sets to six to George Ward D.

George Ward C have quietly moved towards the top end of the table in recent weeks. They beat Cat E by 10 sets to nil but then surprisingly slipped to defeat when they played Hit ’n’ Hope recently. The final score seven sets to three in favour of the Hinckley side. Ian Nixon winning his three.

Other results were Barlestone C six Cat G four, George Ward D seven Cat F three and Queen’s B seven George Ward E three.
