Third draw away from home for Canaries

-

BARWELL were pegged back twice by Nantwich Town to claim a third successive draw away from home.

Callum Ball had opened the scoring before Andy White equalised for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

Brady Hickey put Jimmy Ginnelly’s side ahead again on the hour mark, but the Dabbers fought back strongly to steal a late point with five minutes remaining.

The early signs were positive for the Canaries, who are still searching for a first victory of 2017.

With his first chance of the match, Ball found the net to give Barwell the lead, slotting past Dan Gyollai after the goalkeeper parried Owen Story’s strike into the striker’s path.

The Canaries continued to create chances as Hickey and Luke Barlone failed to hit the target with good opportunities.

They were made to pay just before the half-time whistle.

Full-back White came inside from the byline and superbly found the top corner on the right hand edge of the area.

Nantwich grew in confidence following the break and saw Joel Stair and Josh Hancock’s efforts unable to test Liam Castle.

Skipper Hickey then put Barwell into the lead for the second time, extending his position at the top of the club’s goalscoring chart.

The midfie lder capitalised on a poorly cleared free-kick by powering home superbly in acres of space.

Castle was forced into plenty of action as the Dabbers pushed for a leveller.

The stopper rushed out to deny Hancock as he raced through on goal before the same man almost found the top corner with a strike from 20 yards out.

With little time left, the Canaries were dealt a cruel blow as Matt Bell fired in the rebound after Castle made an initial save.

Barwell: Castle, Taylor, Kay, Stanley, Nisevic, Story, Hickey, Hildreth, Tomkinson (Lavery 90), Ball, Barlone. Subs not used: Smith-Varnam, Towers, Baldwin, Grouse.
