Time to make council accountable

-

HINCKLEY and Bosworth Borough Council, time to step up to the mark.

Well, besides Brexit itself, it seems from a leaver’s point of view another equally as good thing has come out of this situation as well, and that is the fact that lots more people are moving away from mainstream media and turning to good old fashioned honest debate via DAB radio, local and internet media.

So the outcome is the fact that the penny is finally dropping and people who have for decades never tried or felt they can make a difference against the political elite are now challenging them.

This brings my attention to our local council and frequent letters over the months published by the people’s Hinckley Times (thank you Hinckley Times) including last week’s letter by Anon re: Council Aesthetics Director.

Well, I’ve just a few words to say - accountability, efficiency, direction, responsibility, where is it?

I agree with Anon in his letter, Manor Street does not have views of the hanging gardens of Babylon, but what they do have, or should I say at least half of them is that beautiful pig elephant view of that eyesore of a cinema that the council has been trying to work out what to do with since its closure in May 1993.

So what I want to know Mr Councillor, what we all want to know is exactly how far through the decision making process are we after 24 years, and how much of our taxpayers money has these last 24 years gobbled up?

Actually while my bee is still in my bonnet can you tell the people of Hinckley after quite a high level of resistance at the time, especially from business owners, exactly how much did it cost us to close Regent Street back in December 2003 - now you’ve decided that we were all correct in the first place.

In all honesty I think it’s about time the public got to know just what’s going on in that lovely cosy warm green council offices, because what I’m seeing is horrific.

So if there are any of Hinckley’s citizens that have similar views don’t hold your tongue, write in as I’d like to know if it’s just me that’s had enough. Anonymous
