Golf club signs new experience head pro
PGA professional Anthony begins in March
HINCKLEY Golf Club has appointed an experienced PGA professional as their new head pro.
Anthony Haste, who has spent more than 20 years in the sport, will take up the role on March 1.
He qualified as professional some 12 years ago and previously worked at clubs in Sutton Coldfield, Cheshire and Derby.
Haste said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for me at Hinckley, and I am very excited to be getting involved in all aspects of the club – from the retail side to coaching, either one-to-one with experienced lower-handicap golfers or working with beginners of all ages as individuals or in groups.
“Hinckley has a woman professional, Amy Taylor, and I will be supporting her in initiatives she has already got under way for juniors and women.
“She will be my assistant at the club and we will be working together on new projects, to which we hope there will be a good response and encourage more people to take up the game.
“My other assistant will be Lewis Whitehurst, who already at the club.
“It is very good indeed to have this time to complete some detailed planning ahead of officially taking up the post.
“There is a lot to do to get the pro shop up and running, contacting suppliers and organising every- is also thing to be ready to hit the ground running. But Hinckley is a challenging championship course. It has a rich history and has always been much respected by pros and amateurs who play there.
“So this, combined with an enterprising, forward-looking and forward-thinking board, concerned with everything connected with the game of golf and with current issues, points to an exciting future at every level.
“I am enjoying spending some time at Hinckley already and looking forward to being there full-time, and getting to meet more of the members in the weeks ahead, as we all get ready for what will hopefully be an exciting season for the club and all the members.”
Hinckley has hosted many major County Union championships, as well as a number of Midland PGA tournaments.
