Relocation celebration for Valentine’s Day
CREATIVE students helped a Hinckley charity shop spread the love with a romance themed relocation celebration.
Students from North Warwickshire and Hinckley College teamed up with the Headway UK store to mark its official launch last week on Valentine’s Day, at 6 Station Road.
Performing arts and music students from the college sang a variety of pieces for customers, while interior and graphic design students produced love-themed window displays.
The relationship between Headway, a charity which supports people affected by brain injury, and the college first evolved from a desire to improve young people’s knowledge about cerebral trauma.
The college’s learning and skills manager, Carrie-Anne Abdulai, said: “This project helped the students implement the creative skills they have developed at the college in order to raise vital awareness of brain injury in the community.”
The partnership also provided students with an opportunity to work directly with survivors of brain injury, for mutual benefit.
East Midlands retail manager for Headway, Julie Chambers, said: “Several of our volunteers are survivors of brain injury. Engaging with the students while at the shop has helped to boost their social skills and confidence. Hopefully this strong relationship with the college will continue and the students will help us with many more events to come.”
The team at the Headway store are always looking for volunteers and donations of clothing and bric-a-brac.
