School rated one of the highest in county
ST Martin’s Catholic Academy has revealed that its first ever set of GCSE results were among the highest in Leicestershire.
The school in Stoke Golding had its first set of GCSE results published in January, with 83% of students achieving five or more A*-C grades, including in English and Maths.
This made it the highest performing state school in Leicestershire and one of the highest performers in the East Midlands.
In English and Maths, 87 per cent of pupils achieved a GCSE qualification, the top performing state school in the county.
For pupil progress, the highscoring school achieved 0.38 (0.0 being the average), the third highest in the Leicestershire.
Clive Wright, headteacher at the school, said that he was delighted with the results, adding: “We had a wonderful group of year 11 students as our first cohort of GCSE pupils who worked exceptionally hard and I have an amazing group of teachers and support staff who are dedicated to helping our young people to learn and thrive here at St Martin’s.”
Deputy head Mrs Lynch-Kelly said: “Our mission is to enable all pupils, from whatever background or ability, to have an exceptional education where we prize knowledge and helping pupils to learn the best that has been thought and said.”
St Martin’s only became an 11-16 school in 2014, so this was their first group of GCSE students to go through the school.
John McGlynn, chair of governors, praised the staff and students, saying: “Our success is based upon traditional values where manners and respect are instilled into pupils and where teachers share their expertise with children in order to help them learn and at high level.
“I would like to thank the staff for their unwavering dedication to making St Martin’s a remarkable school.”
