12 years to sort out parking

-

IN reply to an inaccurate letter by Lib/ Dem leader Cllr Bray last week.

Cllr Bray is correct in saying that the County Council is Conservative controlled but that is where the accuracy ends. For the past 12 years Hinckley Town has been represented at County Hall by Lib/Dem councillors, who for most of that time were also in charge at the borough council. During this time almost 500 long and short stay council provided parking spaces on Argents Mead, Brunel Road and the bus station site have been replaced by just 540 short stay spaces in The Crescent operated by Sainsbury’s. All of the streets where the residents have on street parking issues, are getting progressively worse not only because car ownership is increasing but because people who work in the town have lost all of these long stay parking places.

All of your readers will know that it is the responsibility of councillors to represent residents and to achieve as much as possible for them and this includes residents parking issues.

Surely after 12 years of representing the residents of Hinckley at County Hall and eight years in charge at the borough council, Hinckley Lib/Dem councillors should have resolved the parking problems in Hinckley?

The statement claiming that Conservatives want parking meters is not only inaccurate it is untrue. There are no plans for residents parking meters and myself and councillor Jan Kirby will be fighting against parking meters anywhere in Hinckley. We are campaigning to improve residents, workers and shoppers parking in Hinckley Town.

We are overwhelmed and very grateful that so many residents are supporting our campaign to fix on-street parking issues in areas blighted by on street parking problems.

In the letter which mentions “cynical ploy”, the cynicism seems to come from Lib/Dem councillors who have had 12 years to sort out, on street parking problems and now object to others trying to resolve an important issue for residents in what we will prove to be a far shorter time.

Rosemary Wright, prospective Conservative county council candi

date.
