Sports stalwarts given awards
COACHES, teachers and groups have been recognised for their contribution to sport at an awards evening.
Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS), in partnership with De Montford University, presented 10 awards to people who have significantly improved sport and physical activity provision in their area at an inaugural celebration evening, held in Leicester.
Kayleigh Nichols, from Hinckley’s Orchard End Nursery, was named joint winner of the Early Years Champions Award.
The gong recognises Kayleigh’s passion for encouraging youngsters to stay active and her commitment to Purposeful Physical Play (PPP) training.
The other winners in the borough were Ian Crisp from Burbage Cricket Club and Beth Kenney, a volunteer at Bosworth Academy.
Ian was highly commended in the unsung hero category of the Peter Walker Memorial Award for dedicating much of his free time to encouraging more people to take up the sport.
While Beth was highly commended in the The Stuart Lindeman Under-21 Award for her volunteer work in local sports and acting as a mentor for year 11 girls suffering with low self-esteem
LRS chairman Andy Reed said: “These awards celebrate the hard work and achievements of schools, clubs, community organisations and volunteers operating in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.”
