LYCHGATE’S Wednesday Open match was won by the first 100lb match catch of the year at the fishery. Drawn on peg 58,venue regular Mick Wilson landed 19 carp to 10lbs on pole fished maggot to win with a superb 105lb 10ozs catch. Runner Up Kev Dales catch would normally be enough to win most Lychgate contest’s but he had to settle for second with a 94lb catch from peg 53, all caught on pole fished pellet.

John Baughan took the honours in a damp Maynes Lake’s Wednesday Open. Fishing bread punch John netted a 47lb 13oz catch of carp to win. Results; Pool One, Section 1: Lou Wyatt peg 32, 7lb 11ozs. Section Two; Martin Checkley, peg 37,35lb. Pool Three, Section 3; Ian Haddon peg 51, 10lb 1oz. Section 4; John Baughan peg 43.

Higham Lanes Saturday Open match was won by Ian Knowles ith a 28lb 11oz catch on pole fished pellet from peg 13. Lee Hanson had one carp with some nice perch and roach to take second place with 15lb 7ozs from peg 8. Pete Wycherley finished third with 11lb 13ozs.

Paul Gardner finished well clear in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open with a 34lb 4oz catch on pole fished corn from peg 45. Terry Brindley weighed 13lb 8ozs from peg 41 to take second place, just 2ozs in front of his son Steve Brindley who weighed 13lb 6ozs for third place.

Shackersto­ne’s Open match was fished along the Hags Lane length in the never ending search for fish! Andy Morton landed a pound plus perch and some small fish to win with 1lb 8ozs.

Ian Plant fished bread punch to catch 12ozs of small roach to finish second. Doug Dimbleby took third place with 10ozs of small roach.

There was a close finish to Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open with just 1oz separating the top two. Drawn on peg 31 the inform Dave Cleaver took the honours yet again. Dave pole fished pellet to land 15lb 5ozs of small fish. Runner Up Tom Watt finished a close second with 15lb 4oz from peg 6. Third placed Jim Spradbury weighed 11lb 9ozs from peg 2.

There was another close finish to Sunday’s Lychgate Fish- eries Open with just 14ozs separating the top three places. A last minute carp gave Darren Milne the win, boosting his catch, taken on pole fished sweet corn, to 18lb 14ozs. Guy Hope weighed 18lb 10ozs to take second place while Jeff Robertson finished third with a level 18lb.

The river Avon at Ryton was high and coloured after the recent rain for Plough Angling Clubs latest contest. Not surprising­ly it was hard work with Martin Chinn needing just 4lb 12ozs to win. Barwells Colin Saunders finished second again with 3lb 4ozs. Ian Stringfell­ow came third with 2lb 4ozs.

Thursday’s Higham Lane contest was surprising­ly hard with Dave Hurlston taking the honours with a two fish catch weighing 13lb 2ozs. Dave Hale weighed a single 7lb 11oz carp to finish second. Clive Oliver was third with 4lb 3ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday and Saturday, draw 9am for both.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches every Saturday and sunday, draw around 9am.

Shackersto­ne have an Open match this sunday, draw 8am at the Rising Sun.

Mill on the Soar have an Open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9.15am.
