Late surge for Barlestone

BARLESTONE C are making a late surge up the table in Division Two of the Hinckley League following some outstandin­g performanc­es in recent fixtures.

Cameron Lightfoot led the way with a splendid maximum in their fixture with Cat E, Alec Downes collecting two wins for Cat.

In their next match against current league leaders Queen’s B, Barlestone took advantage of Queen’s who turned up minus a player, making them pay by inflicting a six sets to four defeat on them.

In their next match they thrashed Cat F by eight sets to two. The highlight being the victory of Will Baggott (Barl C) over Eddie Kwok (Cat F) to take his 100% record. It was a close set with Baggott sealing victory 11 points to nine in the fifth game.

George Ward E continue to improve with some impressive performanc­es in recent weeks. Their match against their own George Ward C resulted in a six sets to four victory. Dave Richardson (GW E) winning his three, with excellent support from Frankie Hallam (GW E) with two sets.

This match highlighte­d just how far this young team have come since the beginning of the season.

In the reverse fixture they lost four sets to six. In their away match at Cat F another victory this time by seven sets to three. Richardson again collecting three wins with Hallam picking up two wins. Alex Downes also won two for Cat E.

GW E then overcame Hit‘n’Hope by six sets to four in a close game; they led four sets to two before closing the match out to finish winners by six sets to four.

The best match of the night saw Dave Shaw (H’n’H) inflict only the third defeat of the season on Dave Richardson, doing so in three straight games.

Shaw was outstandin­g winning all three of his sets. In their match with their own D team they were comfortabl­e winners by nine sets to one. Oliver Wynne (George Ward D) taking their only set against Alana Richardson.

GW D were beaten three sets to seven by Hit’n’Hope, despite a maximum from Roger Hill.

Cat F could not contain RE Studios 2 who took victory by seven sets to three by virtue of maximums for both Geoff Stratford and Gary Rhodes.

Queens B lead the table with 102 points, GW E 98 and GW C 93.
