RSPCA investigates reports of horses being tethered to moving vehicles

-

THE RSPCA are appealing for information following reports of horses being tethered to moving vehicles in Leicestershire.

The animal welfare charity said several reports have been received in Ellistown, near Coalville.

But residents in the nearby villages of Bagworth and Thornton took to social media to report similar incidents this week.

One user posted: “Horses tied to vans again driving up and down Bagworth! Are the police really not doing anything about this or are we still too interested in counting bloody lorries? The potential danger to horses or other sensible road users is massive but it’s being ignored. Why?”

Another person added: “They do it up and down the village all the time. Surely if the police stop them they don’t need witnesses?”

The RSPCA said they are “very concerned” by the reports and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

A spokesman said: “It is very concerning that horses have been seen tethered to moving cars in Leicestershire, which could have huge consequences for both the animals’ welfare and potentially the public’s safety.

“We have received reports of this occurring in Ellistown in Coalville however, we are now appealing for any witnesses who may have vehicle registration numbers to contact us so we can investigate further.

“We urge anyone who witnesses this to take down the registration number of the vehicle involved and to contact us on 0300 1234 999 or the police on 101.”
