New flats plan for scrubland

-

FIVE apartment blocks could be built on a green ‘buffer zone’ between homes on a main route into Hinckley.

A planning proposal has been submitted to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for the properties on land sandwiched between Coventry Road and Paddock Way.

Developers Centre Estates want to put up the blocks, amounting to 55 flats accessed from Paddock Way, along with parking, bin stores and a sub station.

The 0.6 hectare site is currently scrubland with no public access or rights of way but provides open space separating traditional homes on Coventry Road with the newer Saxon Paddock estate.

Centre Estates say the flats, one, two and three bedroomed units in 2.5 storey blocks, would be aimed at couples and professionals on a rental basis.

Each building would have its own meter rooms, post rooms and a communal laundry room

Parking for 72 vehicles is proposed with gated access off Paddock Way.

The scheme has been modified and reduced to limit impact on surrounding properties.

Information in support of the submission states: “The scheme has been designed to ensure that there would be no harm to neighbour amenity by way of loss of light, loss of privacy, or over-dominance.”

People are invited to comment on the proposal, which will be brought to the council’s planning committee at a later date.
