PARENTS of school children in Leicestershire have been alerted to a disturbing incident of ‘stranger danger’.

Both secondary and primary schools in and around Desford issued warnings after youngsters described how they were approached by a man in a car asking for directions.

After talking to them he invited them into the vehicle to help “show the way”.

Police were contacted about the incident which happened in Manor Road in Desford at around 3.30pm on Wednesday March 1.

Bosworth Academy, Desford Primary and Kirby Muxloe Primary all issued warnings saying: “Dear parents and carers. We have had a report of an incident today involving a secondary school child being asked to provide directions to a man in a dark coloured car.

“They were asked to get in to show the way. The child refused and was unharmed but I would ask [parents] to remind children not to talk to strangers and ever enter the car of a stranger.”

Desford Primary School head teacher, Martin Turnham, sent text messages to parents.

He said: “We have followed standard procedures. Our children have a lot of training around the subject of stranger danger. We have put it out to parents in as level terms as we could find without spreading alarm.”

Chris Parkinson, executive head teacher of Bosworth Academy, in Leicester Lane, Desford, and Winstanley College, in Braunstone Town, said: “We have sent a message to all parents via email or text and reminded students about stran- ger danger issues about getting into cars or talking to people they don’t know and urged them to be super-vigilant.”

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 6.30pm last night saying that a man had spoken briefly to two boys asking them to get into his car on Manor Road, in Desford, at around 3.30pm.

“No physical contact was made and no further reports of a similar nature have been received. Schools in the local area have been made aware and advice is available on our website.”
