West End comes to town cinema
LIVE West End theatre returns to Hinckley’s Cineworld as the cinema launches its latest season of super screen experiences.
Among the offerings are the RSC’s ancient world series, with William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar on Wednesday April 26 and Antony and Cleopatra a month later on Wednesday May 24 and the acclaimed revival of Sir Tom Stoppard’s classic Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, starring Harry Potter star Daniel Ratcliffe.
This National Theatre production will be streamed live from the Old Vic on Thursday April 20 from 7pm.
The play made Stoppard a household name virtually overnight after first being aired at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1966.
Set against the backdrop of Hamlet, two hapless minor characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, take centre stage.
As the young double act stumble their way in and out of the action of Shakespeare’s iconic drama, they become increasingly out of their depth as their version of the story unfolds.
With many showtimes at the Old Vic virtually sold out during the February 26 to April 29 run this could be the only chance for Hinckley’s theatre fans to experience the 50th anniversary production.
Cineworld manager, Chris Clarkson said: “It’s ideal for the theatre lover who wants to see a major London play but perhaps can’t get tickets or isn’t keen on travel. You pay a fraction of the cost to watch exactly the same production in the comfort of the cinema, right on your doorstep.”
With adult tickets starting from £16.99 Chris said he hopes the interest in these events will continue.
Chris said: “We seem to have established a good regular following in Hinckley. Our Andre Rieu Christmas concert and Miss Saigon anniversary performances were actually sell-outs. “So we are very pleased with the way it’s developing and it’s going to remain a staple part of our offering.”
