Two arrested over death of Charlie
Youngster died at water park in July
TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence following the death of five-year-old Charlie Dunn.
The schoolboy died following an incident at Bosworth Water Park on July 23 last year.
A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested in Staffordshire on Monday morning.
They were also arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
The schoolboy, from Tamworth, had been enjoying a summer day out with his family when his unconscious body was found in the park’s Blue Lagoon lake.
Despite an off-duty paramedic performing CPR, he died in hospital the following day.
Leicestershire Police said in a statement: “A man and woman have this morning (Monday March 13) been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.
“It follows an incident at Bosworth Water Park, near Hinckley, on July 23 2016, in which five-year-old Charlie Dunn, who came from Tamworth, drowned.
“They have also been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.”
An inquest into Charlie’s death was opened and adjourned on August 8 last year.
At the time, no cause of death was given and a second post-mortem examination was ordered.
It was re-opened and adjourned several further times by Rutland and North Leicestershire Coroner Trevor Kirkman to allow police to continue their investigations into the death.
No official cause of death has yet been given.
Police made a number of appeals for information to understand how the boy, who reportedly disliked water, ended up in the lake.
Inquiries at the time showed that more than 500 vehicles passed through the barriers at the entrance on the day of the incident, but only a handful of witnesses came forward with information.
The family visited the park between 11.55am and 3.20pm.
According to reports, an 11-year-old pulled him from the water at around 2.45pm while searching for his swimming goggles.
