Bosworth Litterati rid streets of grime
WILLING Wombles joined a Big Bosworth Spring Clean organised as part of a national Keep Britain Tidy initiative.
The self-proclaimed Bosworth Litterati scoured the streets of Market Bosworth town centre and worked out towards its countryside borders as far as Bull in the Oak in one direction and the Pipistrelle estate by the Ashby canal in the other.
Market Bosworth Country Park and the Parish Field were also given the once-over in the two-hour blitz.
More than 20 volunteers, from toddlers to retired residents - and a dog - met outside Market Bosworth fire station to get kitted up with litter pickers and hi-vis jackets, supplied by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Between them, they collected 19 bulging bags of waste, including a pair of women’s knickers and a car wing mirror.
After more than two-hours of tidying, they headed to The Red Lion pub for cobs, tea and coffee and a chance to share stories from their thoroughly rubbish experience.
One of the co-ordinators, Dave Knappett, said: “The weather was very kind to us. No rain!
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and we got to meet loads of new people.”
The bagged rubbish and litter picking kit from the weekend initiative was collected two days later by a borough council worker who headed off to pick up some flytipping that had been spotted en route.
