-

HAMMER-WIELDING robbers threatened a shopkeeper and demanded cash in a terrifying raid in Barwell at the weekend.

Two men approached the victim as he was locking up his Costcutter store in Charnwood Road at 9pm on Saturday (March 4).

They threatened him with a hammer before stealing his cash and fleeing in a maroon Peugeot 406.

The shopkeeper suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Leicestershire Police are appealing for information on the incident.

A spokesman said: “A shopkeeper was threatened and robbed in Barwell at the weekend, did you witness it?

“If you were in this area on Saturday evening and recall either seeing people acting suspiciously or you witnessed the incident then please contact us.

“Also, if you saw a maroon Peugeot 406 parked or being driven away from the area then get in touch.

“From enquiries we’ve conducted so far it’s believed the car is a rare model and there’s not many of those vehicles on the road, if you have seen a similar vehicle parked or abandoned contact us.”

The suspects both wore dark clothing and it is believed they were aged around 18 to 20 with a small build.

Anyone with any information should contact PC 2137 Kevin Sharkey on 101, quoting crime number 17*93389.
