Where is the political opposition?

-

DOWN all the years I have taken an interest in politics, I have never known a period such as we are experiencing now.

The Tories are resurgent and strong, Labour is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, hell-bent on tearing itself to shreds, LibDems as ever are a joke and irrelevant, UKIP should be the new opposition but keeps shooting itself in the foot, the Green Party is like a dotty relative, very eccentric but harmless, the SNP, although powerful in Scotland can only whinge continually at the wicked English and have become tedious and boring, the remainder in Parliament equate to the proverbial chocolate teapot.

In our democracy it is imperative to have a strong opposition to the government of the day, to hold it to account, such that if it fails the people in their desires, it can be turned out every five years. In this way now we are getting out of the cesspit that is the EEC, we can put back the “Great” in Britain and work to a brave new future, but with the “first past the post” electrical system, it is imperative that we have two strong main parties to give voters a real choice. Robert Morris, Stoney Stanton. I was very sad to read John Payne’s letter (Hinckley Times 8/3/17).

I am unable to respond to the substance of his comments’, as there was none. But no one illustrates the regurgitated bile of the looney left better than this guy.

Unable to respond with evidence to refute me, he reverts to the left’s usual tactic of accusation, claiming racism, and then goes global, avoiding the subject matter.

His looney mates in Birmingham had it down to a fine art; having identified the target, the individual would be confronted with an accusation of racism or sexism, and be expected to admit to the charge, comply and you were finished; denial was further evidence of your “crime”.

The first victim of the left, as illustrated in Mr Payne’s letter, is always the truth.

Moderate Muslims must be curling up as they read his defence of extremism, and I hope he watched the news recently, as Birmingham was I don’t often send letters for publication in the Hinckley Times.

Firstly congratulations to the writer of the leisure centre letter. Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Places for People take great pride in the cleanliness of the leisure centre. This will not happen without the support of all who use it.

From a disgruntled resident - operational problems do sometimes mean a collection date is changed, however if this is a regular occurrence please contact myself or Cllr Nickerson who will look into this matter.

Unwanted homes shock - Andre Wheeler should know that money available from the council, for the purchase of so many new houses, is not unlimited, but we have at least secured six properties on the development, and will soon own new homes on Southfield Road.

Parking in Hinckley is obviously going to be a county council election issue with Tia Junior, and Lib Dem Cllr Bray both commenting on the idea of parking meters in Hinckley. As Cllr Bray lacks the ability to influence such decisions, readers may like to be reminded that as leader of HBBC I am opposed to any suggestion of parking meters on Hinckley streets. I have written to the cabinet member at County Hall to advise him of this, and I will also make a promise that county councillors cannot. If LCC sees fit to introduce on-street parking charges in Hinckley then I will introduce 30-minute free identified (with London) as being a centre for Islamic extremism.

It was good to see West Midlands Police finally coming to their senses, as they were in denial of reality for years’, having embarked on a politically correct agenda which time has proved to be wrong

Mr Payne, it is clear that your spiritual home is North Korea, and as you hate the majority view in this country, and it’s history, then you should go there, for only when confronted with the reality of your ideology, is there any hope of you seeing sense.

However, should you do this and experience the horror of what you advocate, you will probably blame Donald Trump for it’s failings.

I believe in free speech, so I do not agree with all those people who want you banned from the letters page. Keep on writing, for the more you rant, the better my case becomes. Thank you! S. P. Vickers parking in some of the council’s town centre car parks (I can hear the gasps from The Hub already!).

As Cllr Bray also thinks that “people simply cannot believe a word the Conservatives say!” I’ll remind him of a few Lib Dem words from their Medium Term Financial Strategy report to council in March 2015.

“What is clear from Appendix 2 is that the worst case scenario is not viable under any circumstances and will effectively lead to the eradication of the General Fund and the potential insolvency of the Council.”

A warning that was left unheeded by Lib Dems and resulted in a £1.7million funding gap by the time I became leader of HBBC.

Lib Dem’s view of finances is to complain about the £5 per year council tax increase that was necessary to help with filling their black hole, but quietly they increased rents for thousands of council tenants, many who are on low incomes and less able to pay, by £400 per year.

Lib Dems however also changed the terms of a £67million loan from a proposed 25 years to 30 years, costing an extra £17 million in interest payments, money that ultimately will be funded through council tenant rents. They don’t tell you that in their leaflets do they?
