New shop will work on goodwill

-

A SUPPORT service for adults with learning difficulties is to open a social enterprise scheme in Hinckley town centre.

Hinckley-based Achieve With Us community care service previously ran stalls at the town’s Monday and Friday markets, selling donated baby and children’s clothing.

Now it is to open the scheme in Regents Court, which will be ready to welcome its first customers at 10am on Tuesday March 21.

Service users will accept, sort, clean and sell donations as they did for the market stalls and service staff hope the customers who previously supported them on the market will follow them to their new store.

Sue Leathers, from Achieve for Us, said: “All of the items we sell are donated to us by the general public.

“Our clients sort the items that have been donated to us, take them to the launderette if required, iron them and prepare them for sale.

“We then sell these items, from as little as 30p.

“The project is not about making a profit, it is about our clients having the opportunity to gain valuable skills in the workplace, supported by our experienced staff team.

“Our clients are very passionate about their work and have built up some great relationships with the people of Hinckley.

“Working in the shop will give them contact with the general public and help their communication skills and confidence.

“We’re really excited about it.”

Achieve With Us service users age from 19 upwards with one 75-year-old already looking forward to serving in the shop on a regular basis.

As on the market stalls, items will be sold at very low prices, from 30p to around £2 in most cases.
