Zoo chief is ‘woman of the year’

-

THE BOSS of Twycross Zoo has been named Inspirational Woman of the Year.

Dr Sharon Redrobe beat dozens of nominations in the East Midlands to scoop the gong at the East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women Awards 2017, held in Nottingham.

A leading figure in the world of primate conservation and internationally known as a wildlife vet, Dr Redrobe has more than 20 years’ experience working in academia, charity and business sectors – which has seen her become a respected authority and advocate on zoological matters.

She is currently steering the zoo through an ambitious £55 million masterplan, which will transform the 88-acre site over the next 20 years into one of the leading visitor attractions in the UK.

Dr Redrobe said: “Having been recognised by one of the most important business bodies in our region is a great honour.

“I am flattered to think that my journey can inspire more women and wildlife enthusiasts to take on a challenge and do their best to fulfil their dreams.

“I am lucky to have a very supportive family and friends and also my wonderful colleagues who are all part of the reason I have been chosen to receive this award.”

Jean Mountain, who launched Enterprising Women 20 years ago, said the awards recognise the achievements of women in business, whose journeys motivates others to strive for success.

She added: “There are some very talented and hard-working businesswomen who play a massive part in the success of their business but are often not recognised for their hard work and determination.

“These enterprising women make an important contribution to the local economy and their success stories will hopefully inspire other women.”

It is not the first award Dr Redrobe has won. She was made OBE this year for her services to skills, science and the economy.
