Man died and woman seriously injured

-

A MAN has been found dead and a woman seriously injured at a home in Ashby.

Leicestershire Police launched an investigation following the incident at a property in Holland Crescent last Thursday.

Officers discovered a man’s body inside the home, but it is not yet clear what caused his death.

A woman was also found at 3.20pm with “extensive injuries” and was airlifted to hospital where her condition is described as stable.

A young child was found unharmed inside the home and is being cared for by relatives.

Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and stressed that while the “local community will be shocked by news of this incident, they should not be alarmed about their own personal safety.”

The house remained cordoned off on Friday while an investigation got underway.

Police are appealing for information and any witnesses to get in touch.

A force spokesman said: “Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in Holland Crescent or the immediate vicinity is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting incident number 408 of March 9.”

Graham Allman, a district councillor in the town, told sister paper Leicester Mercury: “Obviously something tragic has happened and it’s most unfortunate.

“My thoughts and feelings go out to all those who are affected by this.

“I was in Ashby this afternoon and I did hear a lot of sirens at about half past three. That’s not unusual these days, unfortunately.

“One of my staff told me she had heard something about a death in Ashby.”

Mr Allman added: “It feels like Ashby is becoming a changed town with all the things that have happened here recently.

“I hope we manage to get to the bottom of this latest incident.”
