THE final match of the season on Shackersto­ne waters was fished along the Gopsal Wharfe length. Leading the way from the end peg was Roger Pickering, who fished bread punch to land 3lb 9ozs of small roach. Hubert Noar landed a superb 2lb 9oz perch which boosted his catch to 2lb 12ozs for second place. Roger Benn weighed 2lb 12ozs of small bream to finish third. Shackersto­ne waters are now closed for angling until June 16.

There was another close finish to Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match with just 8ozs separating the top three. Venue expert Steve Brindley took the honours after a switch to lighter tackle to catch some small fish paid off, he finished with 18lb 14ozs to win. Guy Hope came a close second with 18lb 10oz of carp. Mick Smith lost a match winning fish on the whistle and had to settle for third place with 18lb 6ozs.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Open was won in style by Andy Findley who pole fished pellet on peg 24 to catch 76lb 11ozs of carp. Andy Stewart fished a waggler on peg 25 to take second place with 42lb 11oz. Dave Massey came third with 26lb 3ozs from peg 13.

Charlie Thackrah qualified for the Lychomania final after winning Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match. Drawn on peg 37 Charlie landed 37lb 6ozs of carp. Mick Smith came second with a 22lb 6oz catch with Andy Findley taking third place with 22lb 4ozs.

It was an eventful day for Colin Bent in Wednesday’s Maynes Lakes Open, after struggling to catch, Colin hooked a big fish which after testing his light tackle to the limits finally smashed his line. His next bite after a lengthy wait, saw his pole elastic break. As he started to recover the elastic he found that the fish was still hooked and he went on to hand line a 8lb 15oz carp. With luck like that he was bound to win, unfortunat­ely Jamie Horler on pool two had other ideas. Jamie finishing top weight on the day with a 29lb 7oz catch. Results; pool one, section one; Colin Bent peg 26, 24lb 9ozs. section two; Karl Downing peg 37, 12lb 14ozs. pool two, section three; Jamie Horler peg 4.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open was won by Pete White with a 22lb 10oz catch of carp and bream on pole fished pellet from peg 17. Andy Findley came second with a three carp catch weighing 16lb 3ozs from peg 31. Mick Linnett caught four carp finished third with 12lb 3ozs.

Higham Lane’s Saturday open match was won by Chris Waite with a 38lb 9oz catch from peg 9. Pete Wycherly came second with 32lb 6ozs with John Varley finishing third with 25lb 11oz.

Sunday’s Lychgate Open was won by Pete Richards who finished well clear with 48lb 1ozs of carp to 13lb 10ozs, from peg 65, and qualified for the Lychomania final. In form Mick Smith came second from peg 58 with a 27lb 10oz catch while Andy Findley completed a busy week, taking third place with a 26lb 4oz catch.

A date for the diary: Shackersto­ne Angling Club’s annual meeting takes place on April 11, at the Rising Sun in Shackersto­ne , at 7.30pm. It’s vital for as many members as possible to attend as there is a major issue on the agenda.

Higham Lane Fishery have open matches every Thursday and Saturday, draw at 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match on Saturday, draw 9am and another on Sunday draw around 9.30am.

Brookfield have an open match on their Stoke Golding water this Sunday, draw 9am.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am, they also have an open match on Saturday March 25, contact Julie on 07775 647088.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
