Top placings for Hinckley runners

HINCKLEY RUNNING CLUB is celebratin­g successes across the board in the Derby Runner League.

The competitio­n is a series of cross country races held from October to March at venues around Leicesters­hire and Derbyshire with around 30 different running clubs from those two counties take part.

An award ceremony for the past season was held at The New Plough Inn in Hinckley, where many Hinckley runners were recognised for their results, announced by league organiser Dave Mann.

Hinckley’s Ben Harding had the best night, being named not only the winner of the VM40 category but also the top men’s competitor in the league during the past year.

Hinckley Ladies team received a tro- phy for finishing top of Division 2 and in the Under 20s competitio­ns, Harry Langham and Bethan Padbury Under each came second in their category.

In the senior ladies competitio­n, Rebecca Gould came third.

Hinckley’s junior section saw 10 members achieving final placings with Isabella Wrightman coming second in the Year 5/6 girls category, Elise Cook-Sutton coming third in the Year 7/8 girls category and Fabien Faria coming second in the Year 9/10 boys category.

Juniors coach Shawn Wilebore said: “We had three podium finishes, and two in fourth place.

“I’ve never seen so many of our runners finish in the top six. Very well done.”
