-

LEICESTER Road took the game to Heath Hayes from the off and immediately began to dominate the field.

Midfielder Jake Holt forced a brilliant save from the Heath Hayes keeper Mark Wiggin, turning his shot from the edge of the box out for a corner on 10 minutes.

The ball fell to Holt again on 16 minutes but once again Wiggin forced the ball over.

Two minutes later, back Callum Earls picked a loose ball up from a corner and drilled a shot which looked to be goalward bound until Wiggin saved brilliantly again.

Wiggin then saved with his feet from another shot from Holt on 21 minutes.

Heath Hayes have Wiggin to thank for keeping them in the game.

On 27 minutes striker Amavir Sandhu broke down the left and crossed brilliantly for midfielder Greg Downes to head in from close range to put Leicester Road in front.

Leicester Road were permanently camped in the Heath Hayes half and it seemed like it was going to be just a matter of time before the next goal however, Heath Hayes held out their one-goald deficit until half time.

The second half got under way and Leicester Road continued on the offensive. Their next chance came on 52 minutes following a precision move down the right which found midfielder Sam Munton in on goal only to shoot tamely for Wiggin to smother in his hands.

On 55 minutes attacking from yet another corner the ball dropped to central defender Nick Hawkins who turned on the edge of the box to shoot but his shot cannoned off the upright with Wiggin stranded.

Heath Hayes continued to hold out but Leicester Road kept the momentum up and continued pressing ahead.

Striker Matty Stenson headed against the bar from a cross from defender Luke Kingsley-Smith on 59 minutes with Wiggin well-beaten this time.

The ball dropped to Stenson in the box again on 66 minutes but Wiggin found his form and stopped yet another goal.

Tom McGlinchey came on for Amavir Sandhu on 75 minutes as manager Neil Lyne changed things around to try to get behind the tiring Heath Hayes but Leicester Road just couldn’t seem to break through.

Great work between Kingsley-Smith and midfielder Joseph Lyne created another opening for Stenson whose header cannoned off the cross bar on the 78th minute.

Following neat play down the right initiated by McGlinchey, the ball was played into the box by Lyne but he was brought down by the Heath Hayes left back for a penalty on 82 minutes. It was Hawkins who stepped up to take a well-struck penalty but which came off the outside of the post for a goal kick.

Leicester Road continued press in the final minutes of the game but to no avail.

The match drifted into the depths of time added on and Heath Hayes were awarded a free kick inside the Leicester Road half.

The visitors ploughed everyone forward for the last kick of the game. Wiggin took the kick and hurled it high into the box while and Kyle Minto scored a scrappy goal on 94 minutes.

His kick left the home side with a disappointing result and two points dropped after many chances to score a winner.
