Please do touch the exhibits at town church

-

PEOPLE are encouraged to touch the exhibits at a tactile display on show during Lent.

St Mary’s Church, Hinckley, is hosting a display called Gethsemane Garments, which features four unique pieces of clothing designed to represent pain, suffering, renewal and hope, linking in with the Christian period of Lent and celebration of Easter.

Designed by costume-maker Peter Privett, a red garment is said to reflect the pain of the world, a sackcloth garment shows suffering, a green garment expresses hope and a white garment suggests resurrection.

Michele Crooks, of St Mary’s Encounter team, said: “It’a very moving display.”

Costumier Mr Privett said: “It was my original intention to include quotations on the garments that were taken from contemporary sources, such as newspapers, adverts and other commentaries, but as the works began to emerge biblical texts came to mind that seem to speak for the present time.”
