Police investigate near-miss video

-

POLICE are investigating after a car drove on the wrong side of a Hinckley road and nearly smashed head-on into another vehicle.

Shocking footage, captured on a dashcam from another vehicle, showed a dark coloured Peugeot 307 driving in the right-hand lane on Ashby Road - a single carriageway.

The car drove on the wrong side of the road for about 15 seconds before slamming on its brakes and swerving to avoid a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

The incident happened on March 11 and the video was widely shared on social media shortly after. The person driving the vehicle in the opposite direction posted about the incident on Facebook.

She said: “I thought he was going to kill me. It left me very shaken.”

Leicestershire Police said they are aware of the incident and enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver of the vehicle.

Officers at Hinckley police station said they have been in contact with all witnesses.

Sergeant Michael Francis Lang said: “I know a lot of people have seen the video and have some strong feelings about what they have seen. But please be careful about what you post [online] as some comments could be damaging should the matter proceed to court.”

The person who recorded the footage followed the vehicle along Ashby Road, the A447, before turning right onto Hinckley Road and coming to stop near the HiQ garage in Mill Street in Barwell.
