Power cut closes town school

-

AROUND 3,300 homes were plunged into a darkness by a powercut which forced Hinckley Academy to shut for a day.

The school, along with adjoining John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre closed last Wednesday (March 15) after the power failure left it without telephones, internet or fire alarms.

The Butt Lane school announced on Facebook that it was forced to close due to a “major power failure”.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) said an electricity outage at just before 5am affected 3,300 properties in the north Hinckley area.

A WPD spokesman said: “All but one property - Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre - had their power restored by around 5.30am.

“We worked with the school and its electrician to install a generator on-site to restore power. We managed to get power back on at just before 9.45am.”
