ONE can only hope that your readers are discerning enough to recognize Mr Vickers’s letter as a glaring example of the right-wing populist tendency to play the man, not the ball.

Among his intemperate and outrageous barbs and insults, I searched in vain for an answer to my question: what would he do with those immigrants - mainly Muslims - of whom he disapproves?

Come on, Mr Vickers - have the courage of your convictions and spit it out - or are you afraid of pinning your true colours to the mast? And I challenge you to produce one shred of evidence for your assertion that I have been in “defence of extremism.”

If you cannot accept and approve of a multi-racial and multi-cultural society then it is you perhaps who should visit North Korea. And if you think that me “seeing sense” is to agree with your repugnant views, then I will stay as I am, thank you very much, Mr Vickers. Enough said. John Payne
