Road markings staggering

-

MIKE Webster’s photo of the top of Alma Road (HT Letters, 08/03/17) and LCC’s approach to “improving the parking situation” really says it all.

When I first saw the new markings I thought one of the locals had done it and was staggered to find it was in fact out esteemed county council.

They have however confessed to an error as the path must be at least a clear 1.6 meters and they will have it corrected.

This is effectively the entire width of the pavement so the new markings will be fully in the road. The impact this will have on traffic seems to have slipped them by, which is precisely why drivers have always parked on the pavement, so I doubt anything will in practice change.

You are right Mike Webster, you couldn’t make it up. And they claim there are no more opportunities for efficiency improvements and they have no choice other than to put up council tax! David Alfred
