Politicians are failing to listen to people over HS2

-

I’M pleased that councillor Rooney has taken the time and interest to point out that HS2 was devised by the last government in 2008, the thinking behind it being quite noble in the first instance in that it was to redress something of the balance between the north south divide in business.

The problem is that that they have fallen for the cardinal sin of so many governments these days of “failing to listen” to any opposition to their initial ideas, the backlash to this almost being on a par to that of Mrs. Thatcher’s poll tax. Indeed, as a committed socialist, I have sincere feelings for so many whose lives will be totally blighted by this project, not that they are simply a NIMBY brigade at that.

What a pity then that I’ve had to share my views with a prominent conservative MP, Michael Fabricant of Lichfield, who has been so vehemently opposed the project. Michael has given me a most sympathetic ear over the years whether when meeting in the “Iceland store” in Lichfield; the pub or simply out in the street with vocal opponents. What’s more his views on the issue no doubt contributed somewhat to him losing his job with the Torys. Labour Party, what labour party, where is it? Could you please come out and identify yourselves. David Abbott Stoke Golding
