Lorry’s great escape from narrow streets

- ROBBIE GORDON robbie.gordon@trinitymirror.com

THIS is the moment a large lorry became trapped on a narrow Hinckley street, forcing the driver to pull off a fine manoeuvre to free himself.

The HGV driver followed his sat nav up Trinity Lane from Mansion Street in search for Factory Road.

But he soon became stuck when parked vehicles on either side of the road blocked his path.

The driver skilfully reversed more than 100m on Trinity Lane, dodging between cars and oncoming traffic, and parked opposite Mill Hill Road.

After a bit of headscratching and traffic management, he used Mill Hill Road to do a swift three-point turn.

The video was recorded at just after 11.20am on Thursday.

A passer-by said: “The lorry tried to get up Trinity Lane but it becomes really narrow towards the end. There’s no way he would’ve able to get through to Hollycroft.

“But he was a very good driver and was able to reverse quite some distance without hitting anything.

“He wasn’t helped by impatient cars coming from Mansion Street really. They could’ve waited a few minutes.

“The driver parked up and waved vehicles through from both directions.

“When it was clear, he drove up Mill Hill Road and did a very impressive three-point turn on his second attempt.

“I gave him some directions and off he went.”

Earlier this month another lorry was filmed at the junction of The Borough and Mansion Street attempting to make a tight left-turn.

Resident Wendy Clarke captured the struggle as the lorry driver was eventually forced to reverse and turn right onto Lower Bond Street instead and find another way out of town.

She said at the time: “It’s a regular occurrence.

“This time the driver stopped and got out of his cab twice to see if he was going to make it.

“I’ve been told it’s a diversion which is bringing lorries down here, but it happens all the time.”
