The great muffin give-away

CHURCHGOERS and ministers from two Hinckley churches marked Pancake Day with a difference, handing out free muffins to people around the town.

Members of St Mary’s and St John’s churches were also joined by the Venerable David Newman on his last day as Archdeacon of Loughborough - now warden at Launde Abbey.

The Shrove Tuesday give-away was an initiative led by the Leicester Diocese of the Church of England and was joined in by churches around the coun- ty, including St Simon and St Jude and the Methodist Church in Earl Shilton.

As well as giving away around 200 muffins, people were offered specially prepared postcards encouraging them to give thanks for something good in their lives.

The Vicar of Hinckley, the Rev John Whittaker, said: “We wanted to mark the day by being generous to others in thankfullness for God’s generosity to us.

“It was fantastic fun.”
